Islamia College lifts Inter College Rolling Trophy T20 Cricket Tournament title

Srinagar, October 30: Islamia College defeated A S College by 7 wickets in the final match of the inter-college cricket tournament here at Islamia College turf field on Friday.

Earlier, after winning the toss the A S College captain decided to bat first and the team scored 150 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Rayees with 41 and Riyaz Malik with 36 were the prominent scorers. For Islamia college Danish took 3, Muneeb and Imtiyaz took 2 wickets each.

In reply, chasing a target of 151 runs Islamia college boys played a patient and well-calculated cricket and overhauled the target in the last over with one ball to spare. Muneeb Munaf scored unbeaten 69 runs for his team. Naveed with 33 and Imtiyaz with 27 runs were the other prominent scorers for the host team. For A S College Irfan, Tanvir and Shahid took one wicket each. Islamia college won by 7 wickets and became the champions of the tournament.

Imtiyaz Bhat of Islamia College was adjudged as the best bowler of the tournament and Rayees of A S College was adjudged the best batsman of the tournament.
Muneeb Munaf was awarded man of the match for his all-round performance and player of the tournament as well.

In the end, the Director Colleges Prof. M Y Peerzada with Former Director Colleges Prof. Y A Shah, Former Principal Islamia College Prof. M A Khan, and Principals of both the host College gave away the prizes and medals to the Winners, Runner up and the officials of the tournament.

Members of Islamia College champion teams of Table Tenis, Badminton, and Cricket were given away the tracksuits in recognition of their achievement in the Sports Festival 2020.
The tournament was jointly organized by Islamia College and Amar Singh College involving 32 teams from all the prominent colleges of the valley.

The Tournament was played after Covid-19 enforced gap of about seven months.
Earlier in the morning, The final match was inaugurated by the Commissioner Secretary to Government Higher education department Jenab Tallat Parvaiz Rohella early in the morning. He interacted with the players and insisted on them taking part in the games and sports. He informed the small gathering on the occasion that the department is organizing the sports festival incoming winter as well and asked the colleges to gear up for the same.
