Cricket gave me the strength to face the challenges of life: Meet Mr 360 of Valley Khalid Bhat

When you talk about the batsman who has the capability to win matches singlehandedly, Khalid Bhat is one such name in the cricketing circles of Kashmir who picks the top spot. Although there are some others most of them are all-rounders. What makes Khalid special is his ability behind the wickets too. He is a brilliant wicketkeeper too. And about his batting abilities, he plays all around the park in 360 degrees.

Khalid like all other Kashmiri kids started playing cricket from an early age but as a professional, he has been into it since his U19 days when he represented the state in U-19. He has also been part of inter-school, District, and many other State Level Tournaments.

Talking about his inspiration, it’s has been Manzoor Illahi, Zahoor Sofi, and Omar Alam, who introduced him to top-level Cricket. Manzoor Illahi has been his coach and ideal in cricket since childhood. Like people know him in Kashmir as ABD, Khalid also admires Ab Devilliers in international cricket.

His family has been his backbone especially his brother cum friend, Waseem Ahmed. For some time, Khalid did face hindrances when his father died but later on with the support of his brother he started playing cricket again. He says Cricket gave him the strength to face different challenges of life.

Khalid till now has scored more than 40 centuries, more than 100 half-centuries and he has also won more than 110 men of the match and more than 20 Player of the Tournament awards. Khalid has been part of some prestigious teams of the State like Kashmir Gymkhana, ODO Spartans and presently, he is the mainstay of City Hunks Srinagar Cricket team.

Khalid has a dream to represent Jammu and Kashmir in Ranji Trophy and he is working hard to achieve his dream. This year especially has been magnificent for Khalid where he created a different name for himself wherever he played.
